The Bauer hockey skate is one of the best known and most popular of all the skate brands. Bauer, owned by the Nike Company since 1994, is sold in over nine thousand stores in more than thirty-five countries. Over sixty percent of all professional hockey players in the National Hockey League wear the Bauer hockey skate. This is no little thing when you think of the punishment that professionals give their equipment. Some years ago there was a wholesale switching of equipment of NHL players when it was discovered that the Bauer skate was not the only high quality hockey product sold by the company. The history of the Bauer hockey skate goes back to 1927 when the company was first opened in a little town called Windsor, which is located in western Ontario in Canada. Then in 1933 Nick Bauer’s company began to make the only hockey skate that had the blade actually attached to the boot. This made hockey history because it was a big step forward in hockey skate construction. The company now makes just about everything else a person could possibly need to play hockey, including, but not limited to, their famous ice skates, sticks, helmets, gloves, shin guards and inline skates.

In 1994 Bauer made another big step in skate performance by inventing a new piece to connect the boot and blade. This new piece, called the TUUK chassis, has gone a long way to making hockey skates less heavy and even more hard-wearing.

The Bauer hockey skate seems to be competitively priced. There are inexpensive models for beginners with the middle range for others and a high end for those who prefer something extreme to skate in. This is pretty much the same as all other brand names. But none of them have the reputation of Bauer.
